The Face Shop: Freshian Volumizing Mascara Review

I have been a fan of waterproof mascaras all my life because I have always wanted everything to be in place without worries of lines going down my face if it rains or when your tear ducts go ballistic and start pouring out emotions.

But tonight, I left my makeup kit at home and stayed with my best friend before coming to work tonight. We ran through her make up kit and with her being a cosplayer, she had so many interesting stuff that got me going… “ooh… what’s this?”..”and this?” … “and this?… ☺

One of the things that caught my eye was this mascara:

Freshian Volumizing Mascara by The Face Shop

I have researched about The Face Shop before as it confused me whether it’s a line from The Body Shop. But it turned out it wasn’t. The Face Shop is from Korea while The Body Shop started from the US.

…. And since I’ve never used any of their products before, I felt the strong urge (lol) to try their Freshian Volumizing Mascara. and boom ! —-

—- Vamped up lashes, hunykins! ♥ ♥ ♥

(Sorry for the dark circle under my eyes, I’ve been working (late) on a lot of things lately. xoxo)

Anyhow, although I didn’t put much effort into curling my lashes, I immediately saw how this mascara gave “Ooomph” to my short lashes. It did look like I was wearing some falsies.

Pros: This was just too perfect for those days that you would want to go for after that big-eyed look.

Or those nights where you wanna pull off those smokey eyes. Yeah. Definitely *this* for that added drama.

I was joking with my bestfriend that this mascara isn’t for those cutesy “meow-meow” nights but for those “purrrrrrrrr…….♥” and “rawrrrr” nights.

And this definitely and -instantaneously- puts you in the mood to vamp up the rest of your eyes — and the rest of your clothes too.

One coat is “ooh-lala”… Two coats are like… Imma say it again… “RAWR!”

So I read a few pros about non-waterproof mascaras – they are, in general, not clumpy or too hard to remove so most people would recommend this type as your everyday mascara. Also, I’ve read from somewhere that our everyday masscara should NOT be waterproof.

This product also has no sting. no scent. and it dried clean and quick.

Just that black, eye-defining, lengthening and volumizing effect.

Cons: This mascara is not waterproof. Yes, it can smudge and run down. So you might want to wear this on days where you are definitely sure that no water can damage your beautiful mascara. Definitely not for dramatic days like graduation, special dates (i.e when you feel like he’s going to propose! ha! 😀 ) or weddings. ♥♥♥

So I have been wearing this for 5 hours now. 😀 and nope, it hasn’t smudged yet. Probably because I’m in an air-conditioned office too. But none-the-less, I will get one of these! Effect is so good it actually wins over my smudge- and waterproof Maybelline Hypercurl Mascara. But I’m still keeping my Maybelline for those days. ☺

Beauty on a Budget: Maxipeel Concealing Cream– The Matte-finish, No Make-up-Look Make-up Base with SPF 20

Anybody would kill for a whitening, mattifying make-up base that conceals scars, flaking and blemishes and has SPF. I could think of top brands that cost more P1000 but here’s something new – all these benefits for less than P100. (Sorry, I forgot how much it costs. XD)

How I came across Maxipeel Concealing Cream:

At first I thought that Maxipeel isn’t a brand that I would want to get into since this brand is known for their strong astringents (Maxipeel 1, 2, and 3) that are used to peel off skin (but on the process, the skin gets burned by the sun and one ends up with darkened, burnt skin).

However, they’ve managed to become a Megabrand in 2008 which meant that their sales have reached the P1 Billion benchmark – now that should say a lot about the trust that Filipinas give them.

Moving on, I came across this product last year while i was living with my older cousin. She recommended it and told me that her acne scars lightened with the daily use of this product. As I read through the product’s label, I learned that it has SPF20 and claims whitening benefits. So I tried it.

MaxiPeel Concealing Cream - fair

Consistency: Thin

Color: Light Brow, with a yellowish undertone, easily blendable.

Coverage: Low, can conceal eye bags and help lighten scars but can’t hide reddish zits or heavy acne scars.

As  a make-up base: I tried putting this on and putting BB cream on top of it. But let your skin absorb this product first as it tends to form clumps under the BB cream.

Whitening benefits:  The product instantaneously lightens your skin tone and I haven’t used this solely for weeks to know if it can significantly provide skin whitening. It does promise an improvement on your skin tone in an early as 7 days.

Final Verdict: I’d classify this as make-up-on-the-go. Like a 5-minute make-up routine. This would probably be something that I’d put on early in the morning (gotta love the SPF bonus!) if I was running really late for work or school, just to even out my skin tone. Then I’d probably just dab on a lip and cheek tint on my lips and apples and that’s it – school/work ready.

Under regular circumstances, I’d still prefer my BB cream. I’m a fan. 🙂

Also, since the consistency is thin, it doesn’t feel heavy on the face and after putting this on, you’d look like you’re just mattified with this really fresh, no-make-up look. Perfect for those beach getaways too.

Also, I’ve been thinking, I guess if I were a boy and I would want light make-up, this will be my go-to-product. This product is also perfect for those who do not like or isn’t comfortable wearing a face full of make-up.

If you want to try this product, they have a sachet version of this which could last you a good 7-10 days. Please let me know what you think if you did try. Just hit Comment below. 🙂

NOTE: They’ve changed the packaging already. I just don’t have the picture of the new packaging with me now. Peace out. xoxo

How to Control Oily Skin: Garnier Pure Sauna Self-Heating Mask Review

Garnier Pure Sauna Self-Heating Mask Review

Oily skin? This IS an issue. Oiliness is next to ugliness. MUST always keep a clean, fresh face.

You know how your face gets too oily that it seeps through your make-up? Problems with getting your BB cream/foundation to last?

Garnier Pure Sauna Self Heating Mask is probably one of the most amazing product I’ve ever tried that has been poorly advertised. I use this twice in a week if my problem with being too oily gets worse than normal. Oily skin is hard to get rid of instantaneously. But this product does it.

Buying one pack actually gets you two sachets which means that you can use this product at least twice. Usually, I share one sachet with my best friend or my sister. And keep the other one for the next sesh. One sachet could actually be good for 4 uses – If you use it just on your T-zone.

Garnier Pure Self Heating Sauna Mask

Prior to putting this on though, please, please, thoroughly clean your face. I usually have a zit or two a day after applying this if I don’t clean up well. My sister doesn’t have any problems with zits though for this product.

Good for: combination to oily skin.

Used for: Oil Control.

Contents: 2 sachets x 6mL

Things to expect:

Texture: Thick, creamy. Things will heat up though once it touches your face. Don’t panic, this is completely normal and it wouldn’t burn your skin even if you leave it on for more than 3 minutes.

Dryness/ No more oil!  – Although your skin will not be purified completely (and definitely wouldn’t feel soft and velvety like when using SkinFood sugar mask!), just like how the product claims, but it will leave your skin feeling dry and oil-free post application. And for me, it felt like that for a good 3-4 days. I also noticed that I became prone to blackheads and  .

My workaround: Make sure to clean your face every morning and evening and use a moisturizer at night. Or use a Moisturizing, Hydrating or Sugar mask on the next day. We want to be oil-free but not too dry as well.

This stuff also doesn’t harden or dry up where you can peel it off so to remove the product, simply wash your face.

Repeat the process after a week or if your skin is like mine, I do this routine twice a week.

Other Cons: I wish it came in a tube. Sachets are messy especially if the other half doesn’t get used up and you have to store it.

Would I buy this again? Yes!
